In a world in turmoil, situation normal
By Raoul Lowery Contreras

Hezbollah terrorist rockets drive northern Israel’s population, Jewish and Arab, into bomb shelters as Hezbollah “fighters’ get killed in Lebanon. Stem cell fans fume over President Bush’s veto of more federal funding for embryonic stem cell research; stem cell research opponents fume at California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's probably illegal loan of $150-million dollars to stem cell researchers.

Mexican hating “immigration reform” critics bombard Governor Schwarzenegger with petulant bile and verbal bigotry when he has an epiphany about the 12-million illegals here already. Minuteman founder, Jim Gilchrist, puts on a tie and sits in Fox News studios looking prim and proper and lying through his teeth while a Fox News reporter sits there looking stupid. He talks about his movement affecting the November elections when he registered a vote of less than 6-percent of eligible voters when he ran for congress just months ago in California’s Orange County.

American troops are being reassigned to Baghdad to combat terrorism in that city of five million.

American congressmen are voting to raise the minimum wage, reform pensions and collect more in pay for themselves.

The American red-hot economy slows a bit encouraging economic girlie men to predict no more interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve.

Record heat hits almost all of America with people dying from the heat even in California where a hundred people have died from the heat. Of course, these deaths pale in comparison to the 800 or so who died in Chicago during a monstrous heat wave a decade ago, or the thousands who died in France from a heat wave.

Newspaper readers all over the country are dumping newspapers for other sources of information. The Los Angeles Times in California and the New York Times on the East Coast are slowly dying with subscribers dropping the papers in droves. The New York Times is closing printing plants and letting people go. The Los Angeles Times is up for sale (though the Chicago Tribune owner of the Times denies that, it is true that the paper is up for sale).

With the exception of the minimum wage being possibly raised, the country seems to be falling apart and under attack from nature and people. Leftists cry, rightists moan, the country slumps in the face of it all.

There is, however, nothing to fear. The National Football League is in camp and the first games are just days away. No-name rookies with try to make the teams. Injured quarterbacks will try to regain their form. Former San Diego Charger Drew Brees will bring hope to the New Orleans Saints with his injured shoulder as will Reggie Bush, the USC phenom drafted by the Saints who are, presently without a home.

Third year quarterback Phillip Rivers will try to lead the Chargers to fame and glory on the running feet of Ladanian Tomlinson, the league’s premiere running back. Giving Rivers the ball will be the best running defense in the NFL. Tomlinson will gain almost two thousand yards on the ground and Rivers will throw the ball all over the place to tight end Antonio Gates and sleeper unknown receivers Eric Parker and Vince Jackson.

We will have to wait six months to see if all this will occur, but the players are in camp, despite the country “falling apart” and under “attack.” The situation is normal.

In baseball, the Red Sox and the Yankees are fighting for first place, Detroit is whipping the World Series champion White Sox, the New York Mets lead in the east, St. Louis leads in the Midwest and the San Diego Padres lead in the west.

Baseball: Situation normal. Football: Situation normal. America: Situation troubled, situation normal.

The future: Bright, as normal.

The economy will grow. Governor Schwarzenegger will win reelection. Congress will stay in Republican hands. The Chargers will stun the NFL. The Padres will win the West, the Mets, the East and the Cardinals the Central. Iran will be put in its place by Tomahawk missiles and bunker buster bombs. Shia and Sunni Muslims will continue to kill each other and Islam will fail in the Clash of Civilizations. In the meanwhile, the Muslim – West confrontation will produce more good action books than the Cold war did.

The West will win this Third World War with terrorism and elements of Islam--it will take time. That is as it should be, for men of the West from the mighty to the pickers of lettuce and tomatoes are clearly bolstered by reason and history. Men of the West threw the Moslems out of Spain in 1492. We should never forget that. We must repeat that defeat of the Caliphates over and over. Defeating fanatical Islam must be normal in our thinking and actions.
