- Reality Stuns the Stupid
Ones
- By Raoul Lowery Contreras/HispanicVista.com
Millions of Americans were stunned as they watched
millions of Iraqis troop to the polls to vote on their own
constitution, something Americans did not do in 1787.
Considering that only 13 election day “insurgent” attacks
(according to news reports) took place in contrast to over 300
on Election Day, January 30th, one must ponder, is the
“insurgency” over?
Finally, have Iraqi voters and their millions of freely cast
votes silenced the emotional and fanatic critics of President
Bush and the war? No, nothing will silence these people.
“Our nation is
evil” —In the North County Times, a daily newspaper.
“So now our invasion and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan
compare in significance to the decades-long Cold War against
communism, according to the fanciful imagery of our fearless
leader. As thousands of innocents are slaughtered and our warriors
go door to door arresting young Iraqi men in their own hometowns,
people are advised not to bring backpacks or baby strollers on the
subways of New York.
We shiver in fear
of frowning boys with dark complexions (sic) as well we should.
The moral and karmic consequences of our waging war for power and
profit will be staggering when they come around to hit us.
And the monetary
cost of Bush's wars? The latest figure is more than $350 billion
so far, money for our bloated military so they can justify their
existence by making us hated worldwide.
The only word I
can use for this nation and its government today is evil, and the
only feelings I have for her lately are disgust and shame. Sadly,
I am not alone.”

“Stop the war
madness” —In the North County Times, a daily newspaper.
“The war is a
farce. It only serves to make Bush and his cronies richer at the
expense of U.S. reputation, military lives and enormous cost
(which will be borne by future generations). Stop this madness!
Stand up for the people who put you in office. Protect us against
this ever-increasing insanity.”
SHIRLEY PUGA,
Encinitas
“Bring our
troops, bring them home now” —in the North County Times, a daily
newspaper.
“Please stop this
insane war. The majority of Americans can now see how futile it is
to attempt to force democracy on any other country. We must lead
by example in our own land, and at this juncture our leaders are
poor examples to follow. Greed and hate are the order of the day
in Washington.
We must bring our
troops back home and rebuild our own land.”
ROBERTA VEATCH,

Oakland Tribune
-- Oakland, California.
“A call to pull
the California National Guard out of Iraq should be put forth as a
November 2006 ballot measure if Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger won't
back such legislation, a Bay Area lawmaker said Friday.”
"The people's governor should speak on this issue," Assemblyman
Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, said during a press conference... Gulf
Coast hurricane devastation proves "we need our National Guard
here in California," he said.”
“Leno is a co-author of Assembly Joint Resolution 36, introduced
Sept. 2 by Assemblywoman Loni Hancock, D-Berkeley. AJR 36 would
urge the federal government "to restore the balance between the
federal government and states by limiting federal control of the
California National Guard to cases where there is an insurrection
or a declaration of war" — in other words, not Iraq.”
“Hancock…aide Armando Viramontes said the California National
Guard is meant to secure California and "not intended to fight an
illegal, illegitimate war halfway across the globe."
My, my, how some
around us are stuck on “Stupid.” Forcing democracy of millions of
Iraqis in an “illegal, illegitimate war,” is that what we did on
Saturday, October 15? I saw smiling Iraqis being frisked before
they entered voting places; I saw Iraqi women, draped from head to
toe in black, carrying Iraqi flags into the polling places; I saw
smiling Iraqi women proudly voting, something most Arab women
cannot do.
I saw millions of Iraqis voting to ratify a constitution that
mandates that women comprise 25 percent of a new parliament and
guaranteeing them the right to vote. Forcing democracy on Iraq?
Please.
Arresting Iraqi men in their own “hometowns?” Please, terrorists
are terrorists and must be hunted down, arrested or killed.
Foreign terrorists are in Iraq and they must be rooted out, as
must the locals who join and support them. These people are
criminals of the worst sort.
They murder women and children and innocent men looking for jobs.
These are not patriots; they are criminal murderers.
“…when they come around to hit us...” is the most interesting
statement by the stupid ones. They hit us in 1993 at the World
Trade Center and President Clinton filed court cases. They hit us
in Saudi Arabia at Khobar Towers and President Clinton didn’t even
ask for Saudi cooperation, according to the head of the FBI, Mr.
Freeh. They hit us on the U.S.S. Cole and President Clinton did
nothing. They hit us at embassies killing and wounding thousands
of innocent non-Americans.
They hit us on September 11th and, finally, we hit back, squashing
them in Afghanistan and now in Iraq. Are we “evil” to have done
so? No, we reacted and carried the battler to their lands. We
didn’t create terrorists in Iraq, nor in Palestine, nor in
Indonesia, Madrid or London. We didn’t create the Moslem
terrorists who slaughtered hundreds of Russian children.
We didn’t create these evil people; they created themselves using
the Koran as their foundation. The terrorists are the “evil” ones,
as are the people who support them. The people who support them
are the people who write letters to the editor or introduce
resolutions that are profoundly stupid and disbelieve the facts
they see with their own eyes.
Millions of Iraqis have trooped to the polls twice and voted more
and more democracy into their lives. They have done so protected
by our M-16 rifles, not compelled by them. Every vote they cast is
a resounding cheer for American liberation from the terrorist
government that slaughtered more Moslems than any regime in
history.
More importantly, it sends a loud and clear message, delivering
freedom is not evil -- it is a priceless gift. Even Sunni Moslems
voted in the election, something they didn’t do in January. Even
the Sunnis are discovering democracy.
One only wishes that the stupid ones around us would also discover
democracy and how we delivered that gift to Iraqis, just as we
delivered it to Germany and Japan after killing them en masse.
Freedom and democracy are not cheap. More expensive, however, are
the stupid ones like Leno, Hancock, Viramontes, Parrish, Puga and
Veatch and the profound evil they support.
