Farrakhan says Fox was correct |
Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan visited Milwaukee this past weekend promoting the Millions More Movement. Milwaukee is the first of several cities Farrakhan will be visiting to promote the Millions More Movement, scheduled for October 15 on the National Mall in Washington D.C. Calling for racial unity and for all to take part in "something that is bigger than us all," Farrakhan said that people of other races should take part in the reunion of the "Million Man March" which drew hundreds of thousands of people to the nation's capital in October 1995. "Why should we have a Millions More Movement? The United States is the greatest nation in the world. But today America is losing friendship all over the world," Farrakhan told the audience at Mercy Memorial Baptist Church, 2474 N. 37th St. Farrakhan said that America's African-American community "is in the worst shape of any community in the United States." He placed blame on the nation's educational system. Farrakhan said that African-Americans and Latinos should form an alliance between the two communities. He said, "Latinos have their issues and we have ours, but we have common ground on other issues." Spanish Journal editor Robert Miranda was one of four speakers before Minister Farrakhan spoke, Miranda said working together can be achieved with mutual respect and trust for one another. "On those issues we can unite around we will stand side by side with African-Americans, and we will work to establish better communications between leadership in both communities. Louis Farrakhan spoke about the statement Mexican President Vicente Fox made a few months ago when he stated that Blacks would not do jobs Mexicans are doing in the United States. Fox's statement drew criticism from Black leadership around the country. However, Farrakhan said that Fox was correct when he said in May that Mexican immigrants take jobs that blacks do not want. Farrakhan asked the audience "Why are you so foolishly sensitive when somebody is telling you the truth?" Farrakhan said African-Americans do not want to pick fruit - jobs often performed by migrant laborers - because African-Americans have already "picked enough cotton." Farrakhan spoke about blacks no longer being the largest minority in America. "Well, if you would stop killing yourselves," Farrakhan said, "then maybe you could multiply better." He said all Americans should join the Millions More Movement "because the country has been taken over by a few greedy individuals." _________________________________________________ Miranda, a frequent contributor to HispanicVista.com (http://www.hispanicvista.com/), is a national award-winning columnist, Latino community activist and columnist for the Milwaukee Spanish Journal.
