How to lose at practically
anything (politically)
By Steven J. Ybarra, JD
I am always amazed that politicians don’t listen to me.
I have no vested interest in their campaigns and thus can tell the truth
about what I see them doing wrong. This race for president is going to be
a five furlong race. The fourth furlong will be in the rain and the mud,
it’s going to be a long race. So lets look at some history.
Recently, in California, we lost the big one to the Gubernator. I know
that that there are those who blame this loss on our Speaker Fabian Nuñez
and Antonio Villaraigosa (Alcalde de Los Angeles) because of their alleged
failure to help Angeledies on his train wreck of a campaign.
So here is the question of the day, How do you lose at practically
anything politically?
Here are the Rules de Jour.
1) Say you are going to increase taxes.
The first rule is never under any circumstances say you are going to
anything but cut taxes. It is absolutely necessary to lie about tax
increases. Republicans have this down to an art form. RayGun told us over
and over again he wasn’t going to increase taxes and then wammo the
biggest tax increase in the history of California. When he became
president he deficit spent us into the biggest debt ever. What did Phil
Angelides do wrong, he said, “I am going to have to increase taxes.” The
day he said that the campaign was over. He went into a toilet nobody could
get him out of. At this point there was nothing Antonio or Fabian could
have done even though they tried like a lot of us to help.
While all this discussion about taxes is going on the Gubernator following
the RayGun tradition put California into a 59 billion dollar debt folly
ever. Also, Bush the liar like RayGun has put the whole country into the
biggest debt ever. (see above)
Now John Edwards has cut his own throat by telling Americans that in order
to get health care he would raise taxes. He has since begun to dance
around the issue by saying that he will review the Bush tax cuts so he can
fund the health care imitative. A tax increase by any other name is a tax
increase. Game over dude! ( See Mondale)
Lets face it we don’t trust anybody with our money. Its down to the point
were if a politician says its raining we go and check, if they say its not
raining we go take our umbrellas and go check. Faith in the guys and girls
in charge does not exist. Why would we trust them with a blank check.
2) Ignore the Hispanic Vote
The east coast Euro centric liberal apologists for slavery only see the
world in black and white. They fail to get the fact that 30% of the states
which will decide the election are Latino. On February 5th, millions of
Democratic voters will have their votes counted for the primary. From
Oregon to Florida across 15 states voters who will make the decision are
Spanish surnamed or Spanish surnamed decedents. Here is the kicker, voting
by those voters will commence on January 7th in most states. More than 30%
of voters in those states will vote by mail not at the polling places. In
Oregon its 100%, in California 41% and so on and so forth it goes. Since
the east coast, Euro Centrists folk do not recognize the possibility that
Latino voters could be subject to civil rights violations since Latinos
cannot be subject to institutional racism they will do nothing to work on
getting these voters to vote by mail. Never mind that most recently it has
been Latinos and not blacks who have been
subjected to the use of force and intimidation at polling places. (See
Orange County) Its time to get real about these voters they need a reason
to vote for Democrats. African American voters have no place to go. The
Latino voter must be persuaded.
While you are at it, whatever you do, do not talk about immigration with
any real plan. Lets get it straight 1 percent of the people in Mexico own
90% of the wealth. There is no middle class and no national minimum wage.
Want the folks on Oaxaca to stay there let them eat and work and get
health care, birth control, education, a national railway and road system
to transport goods and then we can take our kids and put them back to work
on the farms during spring break.
(I thought you would like that part.)
3) Spend all the money on the media vampires and their needs and
ignore the rank and file of the party.
Since the advent of the remote control and the mute button the importance
of television has diminished. Voters simply mute the commercials which
officially qualify as noise. Also with 40% of voters in major states
voting by mail the mail arrives after they have voted. Some impact there
huh? Lets face it the print and multi-media vampires need to be staked.
4) Get into the mud.
Candidates have now begun the mud part of the race, this is true for both
parties. What is clear is that voters don’t care about the mud, they want
to know how the candidate will address the issues that affect them in
their neighborhoods cities and states.
5) Don’t have any spine.
Finally, be as opportune as you can! Flow with the focus groups and figure
out how to be spineless.
In the last twenty years we have watched the political wind be driven by
focus groups and the media vampires. Our Democratic political leaders now
gauge every word afraid that one group or another will be offended.
Sometimes people get offended. It causes debate and an open and free
discussion of what the nation needs. The war has made all of us tired and
anxious, it is now about ending it and most voters do not care how. They
just want it over. Of course this goes along with taking hard stands on
how to cut oil usage in the US of A. It is going to take more spine than
the DNC has to talk about mandating mileage requirements and cutting the
speed limit etc.
Oh back to John Edwards, a big fuss (see tempest in teapot) over some
bloggers statement who was on his staff. I got an answer to this problem,
either fire the person immediately and say you don’t agree with what was
said or promote the person and say good job. Don’t be a woss about the
issue. America needs fearless leadership. We all need to know that the
next president will have the spine to stand up to all but have enough
knowledge about leadership to talk to the supposed enemies of all of us.
Yes we like our leaders to be deciders. Wishy-washy people who have to
talk for ten minutes to give an answer drive us all crazy. (see John Kerry
2006)
Is it all possible that I am the only one talking about opium in
Afghanistan?
As for me, I know that politicians don’t listen to me so watch and keep
score who will lose this one. Let us put it this way, if Kerry had
listened, he would have been president.
