Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) gift of $100-million to Mexican drug cartels.

That’s right Senator, you can’t have it both ways – you personally stopped US funding in Mexico’s war against drug cartels to the tune of $100 million – thus giving the drug cartels a $100 million repast that will not be used to bring them to justice. You justify your terribly irresponsible act under the pretense that you are the keeper of all that is good and that you and you alone know what is the best course of action to take in the matter of fighting the horrific war being wage on the Mexican people by the most brutal and barbaric band of killers, kidnappers and drug traffickers, whose objective is to bring illicit drugs to US citizens and their children.

You have letters, not proven facts, just letter that tell you that there are human rights violations taking place in Mexico so until that stops – which? The letters or the violations, Senator? – Mexico will have to continue its valiant struggle without the aid of the US to the tune of the money you so easily and in the comfort of your office withheld.

Contrary to the Secretary of State’s favorable report of Mexico’s human rights, you took it upon yourself to contradict them and act on your own and in passing embarrassed President Obama who will be meeting with President Calderon later this month.

So tell us, Senator, are the Mexican drug cartels obeying your human rights edicts? Are they stopping the beheadings, the cutting off of fingers, ears, arms, legs? How about the kidnappings, the rapes, the wanton killings of police officers, journalists, military personnel, and innocent bystanders be they children or women?  How much are you going to take away from them?

On the home front, are you going to stop US arms smuggling as a way of punishing them? Are you going to take away education funding to US schools, colleges and universities until students stop using drugs that are the driving force behind the drug war in Mexico?

So explain to us should the Mexican military stop fighting these barbarians? Should they simply make a deal to allow passage of their illicit drugs into the US, some of which find their way for distribution to the citizens of your own state in Vermont?

And also explain how come every year you have continued to vote for funding of the Iraq war with the full knowledge that there have been numerous accusations, not just letters, of human rights violations by our military and contracted private security personnel? Why didn’t you stop the funding? Is it because while you oppose the Iraq war you support our military men and women as you have said?

That being the case, one can only assume that you do not support the uniformed Mexican men and women in the service of their country nor do you support Mexico’s war on drugs. Senator, you can’t have it both ways.

In truth, Senator, you’re acting like a man fat with power after 35 years in the Senate blinded by your own power gluttony, acting without knowing the terrible cost of your absurd actions on so many lives.

Next time you read about one of the citizens of Vermont dying from an illicit drug overdose, remember that you helped the smugglers and distributors.
