There’s an understandable disconnect with blacks and the immigration issue.

We did not immigrate to this country, legally or illegally. We were stolen and kidnapped to build America with free labor and no rights. Malcolm X reminded us that we didn’t land on Plymouth Rock, it landed on us.

The faces of Katrina are a stark reminder of “our place” in the United States. Lest we forget, America abandoned black tax-paying citizens.

Our Weekly (OW) MISSION STATEMENT

Our Weekly’s core values are in the heart of our mission statement: OW will champion high journalistic standards through the promotion and distribution of relevant, objective news and information which vitally impact the African American Community.

OW will be an oasis for learning and entertaining, inspiring growth and progress in the community and bridging resources to people.

Content development will be based upon our judgment and the issues and ideas of the people we serve. Therefore, not only will we engage our readers, by asking for their input, but explore their ideas, maintain an open dialogue and reflect our culture.

We will give due diligence in our research & fact finding of subject matter enabling OW staff writers to be more adept in examining issues and assessing arguments on content to be delivered. OW will champion highly accurate and comprehensive news and information.

OW will position itself as the paper of choice as it relates to reaching the Los Angeles African American community.

To do all of the above, we acknowledge that we must encompass a commitment to the betterment of our readers, our community, our society, our world and we will do so by the demanding standards of Our Truth, Our Voice, Our Weekly.
