Remarks by Jerry Natividad to the Republican National Hispanic Association

Remarks by Jerry Natividad to the Republican National Hispanic Association
Mr. Chair-RNHA National
Members of the Executive Committee RNHA National
Mr. Gil Cisneros-Colorado Chair-RNHA
Ms. Bettina Inclan

First, let me congratulate you all on a very informative dialogue that took place yesterday. I thank the RNHA National Chair and Ms. Inclan for moving quickly in bringing this opportunity to the membership and other individuals interested in issues that effect Latinos, but more importantly that effect Latino's in our party.

I also want to thank Mr. Cisneros for his bravado in bringing the issue discussed to the fore front of our organization and to the political community in which we live and work.

Importantly here however is to not loose sight of that reason. It will continue to be a reason and will continue to raise it's ugly head time and time again, if we do not as party activist make a clear and loud statement, that this is not acceptable behavior by anyone within our party, regardless of that individuals right to free speech.

Chairman Celis, now is the time to move a very small but significant piece forward from yesterdays discussion. That is the opportunity to express to all that will listen the very reason that we felt compelled to meet yesterday and discuss disparaging comments about Hispanics and Hispanic immigrants either legal or illegal.

Now is the time to share with the public that the RNHA-held a meeting to discuss continued comments about Hispanics and the distasteful way in which certain party members are handling themselves and how this is not a practice that the RNHA or the RNC should or will tolerate in any means or way. Now is the time to share with the public that this is such a critical issue to the Republican National "Hispanic" Assembly, that while we denounce these types of actions today, we fully intend to take this issue on at our National Convention in July, and as such take a formal position so that all can take notice, that these types of issues should never be confused with illegal immigration, needed immigration reform  and pure outright racism. We should also make public now that we intend to bring cultural integrity to the Republican Party by insuring that if these comments are made by a member that is in a leadership or elected position within the party, we will work to censor this type of action, but also work to bring understanding and sensitivity to these individuals within the Republican party.

To the leadership of the RNHA, I thank you for your commitment to bring Latinos from all walks of life into the party, but lets not turn a cheek to behavior that is insulting and demeaning to us as Americans and of the family of Latinos, that have worked hard to defend this country during war, build this country during prosperity, and now will chart the future with our numbers.
