Republican Congressman John Culberson of Texas and 47
co-sponsors recently introduced House Bill 3622 to establish a “Border
Protection Corps.”
This is undoubtedly a response to the fear that exists in the U.S., a
country prepared to create a system resembling the Gestapo in Germany, or
the KGB in the Soviet Union, in the name of national security.
If this law were approved, we would be living in a nation that promotes and
justifies mutual distrust – something that would be contrary and
unimaginable to the American forefathers who declared a Bill of Rights
composed of one people and one united community that would not discriminate
against someone because of their racial profile or nationality.
This law would encourage volunteer militant-vigilante-policemen in cities
throughout the U.S. with the objective of reporting undocumented immigrants
to collaborate with federal, state and local authorities. These watchful,
nationalistic citizens who love their country would include police officers,
professionals, teachers and citizens of all kinds. All of whom are prepared
to offer time out of their lives in the name of strengthening and securing
the peace of the nation.
It’s time for our undocumented brothers to understand that they need to
start their residency proceedings immediately, and that they should not
jeopardize their immigration status by waiting for a national legalization
program or for an extension of Section 245i.
