Arizonians: So easily manipulated by racists among them. California Delivers Crippling Blow to Street Gangs
By Patrick Osio, Jr.

   June 8, 2010

It doesn’t take much to get Arizonians riled up. They think of themselves as the last of the true Westerners, John Wayne’s spirit lives through them. They are high on law and order as they see law and order. They live in the days when the lawman was the ultimate enforcer, and so what if sometimes in the name of the law they trampled on the rights of some – that was the price that had to be borne by those few for the good of the community.

  •  The above victory cry will resonate throughout California, assuming of course that Californians vote to decriminalize marijuana. The passage of the ballot measure - Regulate, Control, and Tax Cannabis Act of 2010  -  this November will extinguish the economic life line that sustains illegal gang activity throughout California.

  • Unfounded Fear of Immigrant Crime Grips Arizona Beware of the Stealth Tax
  • By Daniel Griswold
    CATO  INSTITUTE

Fears about an illegal-immigrant crime wave helped propel passage of Arizona's tough new law that makes it a crime to be present in the state without legal documents. Like the law itself, those fears are based more on perception than reality.

  •       From what I am reading, there is a serious effort to install a Value Added Tax in the US. And from the descriptions given of this tax system by commentators, the taxpayers in the US have no idea how this works.

  • California Republican Congressman Darrell Issa demanded that “he” be thrown out of the Republican Party for supporting candidates against Republican congressmen. Issa called “him” a “racist.” Issa is now a powerful ranking member of an important congressional committee and his target, the racist Republican traitor is out of office.

I love the way Republicants and private industry keep up the big lies.  You have to know that BurnsPhilp will without a doubt screw us all, especially all the folks who are directly impacted by the oil spill.

Are the likes of Rand Paul and Russell Pearce becoming the face of the Republican Party? Let's hope not. Paul, an ophthalmologist who recently became the Senate nominee from Kentucky, has already embroiled himself in controversy over his comments about the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Pearce, the Arizona legislator who sponsored the state's tough anti-illegal immigrant law, has now decided to target not only illegal immigrants but their U.S.-citizen children as well.
Argument: Hispanics the most discriminated Counterpoint: Hispanics discriminate Hispanics
    AP-Univision Poll: Hispanic discrimination high
    By ALAN FRAM

Associated Press (AP) -  (May 21, 2010) - Who's discriminated against in America? More people say Hispanics than blacks or women - and it's far from just Hispanics who feel that way.

An Associated Press-Univision Poll found that 61 percent of people overall said...

The timing of this poll is quite suspect given the Arizona anti-illegal immigration law, and Mexican president Felipe Calderon’s America-scolding. But who are the real discriminators here?

CBP Highlights Arrests and Seizures of the Week Riding the Anti-Immigration Wave: The Short- and Long-Term Political Implications

However, while it may seem advantageous for some in the GOP to use this anti-immigrant wave as political momentum for re-election, the long-term political impact may be larger and more harmful than they realize.

Jamaica: Different Drug War, Different Strategy Better Enforcement of Existing Migrant Worker Protection Laws Needed

By COHA Research Associate Katherine Haas

A state of emergency was declared in certain areas of Kingston, Jamaica on Sunday, May 23, as violence broke out over the extradition of accused drug lord and local hero Christopher “Dudus” Coke. Coke is the alleged head of the “Shower Posse,” a gang that has committed scores of drug-related murders in both Jamaica and the United States since the 1980s. Washington is seeking the extradition of Coke based on charges lodged in the U.S. for trafficking in drugs and weapons.

A new paper from North Carolina State University argues that federal farm subsidies contribute to the migration of both legal and illegal farm labor into the United States and that, since federal actions are an impetus for the influx of migrant labor, the federal government should do a better job of enforcing laws designed to protect those workers.

The New Global Economic Reality Made in Mexico’ gains ground on China as attention to detail boosts US demand
     By Charles Simpson
First: A reality check on Mexico
Mexico is in a unique position to reap many of the benefits of the decline of the US economy. In order to not violate NAFTA and other agreements the U.S.A. cannot use direct protectionism, so it is content to allow the media to play this protectionist role.   The U.S. media – over the last year – has portrayed Mexico as being on the brink of economic collapse and civil war. The Mexican people are either beheaded, kidnapped, poor, corrupt, or narco-traffickers.

    Financial Times

Who said that Mexico’s maquila model was dead? At the beginning of the decade, many economists and trade experts predicted that the practice of importing goods duty-free into Mexico for assembly and re-export was doomed because the country would be unable to compete with China.

Trade figures published this week show how wrong that prediction was.
